Lim Geo Dang Korean Contemporary Styled IROJE KHM’s Project
This is the project of IROJE KHM, named Lim Geo Dang a Korean styled house concept that combined of both modern and traditional home design. Unlike another Asian styled home design, this modern design is matching the modern and traditional in contemporary style. This modern house for an author and publisher based its spatial design concept on dramatic circulation, which was characteristic of traditional architecture in Korea. The circulation of ancient Korea continues infinitely in space, overlaps and penetrates each other asymmetrically, and finally, produces several picturesque frames by surrounding nature and building.
Much Asian cultural still keep their habit, Here is the “Madang” as a courtyard. “Madang” is the open courtyard which is found in traditional Korean House which this house must have. It is a place for the residents to witness the nature. Eight places of “madang” located in different levels were planned to produce attractive and interesting drama of spaces. All the major spaces of this house were designed to have a direct relationship to “madang”.
Here are another side of the house, most of the materials are made of wood, this is a heavy mass of woods flying over the roadside was expected to evoke the “flying” image from traditional architecture were used in this project. T-shaped metal ties used to fasten wooden members to each other, over hanging doors, and steel rods which hang out the doors are the traditional elements; however, they can be modernized and recall past as the same time.
